CANDLE CARE 101
SPÈ Atelier Guide to Caring for Your Candle
Our candles are all natural, made from organic/eco soy wax and pure essential oils, no manufactured fragrances and all toxin free. Soy wax is naturally renewable and carbon neutral, making it a sustainable product. Soy wax is a beautiful organic material which will have appearance inconsistencies, this is the beauty and integrity of hand crafted design.
Note inconsistent temperatures through shipping can impact the appearance, however do not worry, this does not impact the quality or scent. As soon as you use your candle and allow the wax melt pool to spread over the candle it will both look beautiful.
Store at Room Temperature: Make sure to store candles at a comfortable room temperature. Too cold will call shrinkage, too hot can soften the wax. Note inconsistent temperatures through shipping can impact the appearance, however do not worry, as soon as you use your candle and allow the wax melt pool to spread over the candle it will both look beautiful. Temperature will not impact the burn or quality of the candle.
Caring for your candles for better scent throw and longevity
First use: To avoid tunnelling it is very important that you allow the candle to burn approximately 3 to 4 hours for the first burn (minimum 2 hours). Wax has memory so if your candle doesn't burn to the edges on its initial burn, it will begin to tunnel through the centre of your candle.
Trimming the wick and Cleaning your Candle: Trimming is an essential factor in caring for your candle in order to avoid deep pools and supporting a cleaner burn with less smoky residue.
How to: Remove the most burnt tip of the wick before each burn. Be careful not trim the wick so short that the flame becomes to small to efficiently burn the wax. Blow away any dust and remove any materials that may have landed in the candle.
Enjoy the scent: Use your candle in a well-ventilated room. SPÈ Candles are designed to bring a ‘subtle waft of natural scent into your spaces’, they are not designed to hit you hard with scent, which can be unenjoyable.
Safety first!
- Never leave burning candles unattended.
- Absolutely never carry or move a candle while burning. Ceramic and glass containers will heat considerably due to the burning time. If you wish to move it put out the flame and let it cool down completely before moving. Hot melted wax can also burn so make sure all wax is solid and cooled before moving.
- Consistent trimming the wick is also part of a 'safety first' maintenance. Wicks that are too long, contain dust or materials are at risk of higher flame and combustion.
- Do not burn the candle below the final 1.5 centimetre of wax. Do not burn candles for more than 3-4 hour period at a time. Never leave your candle unattended and keep far away from anything flammable.
- Avoid burning in drafts or near curtains.
- Only burn a candle on a fire/flame resistant surface. We suggest using a fireproof coaster.
- If you are pregnant please check with your doctor before using scented products.
- Never leave a candle within reach of children and pets.
- Never use in babies and children's rooms.
